The Community of Practice is delighted to support a South East initiative spearheaded by Steering Group members Daisy Hack (Sussex Partnership Trust) and Karen Harrison White (NHS England WTE) to address the Learning Disability Nursing workforce shortage in our region.
Jonathan Beebee – Royal College of Nursing presentation at the 2023 Community Conference underscored the nationwide challenges facing the profession in recent years, such as an ageing workforce and declining enrolment. These trends are evident in our region, exacerbated by the recent news of a complete absence of Learning Disability Nursing student cohorts starting in September 2024 in the South East
This project aligns perfectly with the Community’s shared goal of enabling people with learning disabilities to live healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. We are committed to supporting and facilitating Daisy and Karen’s work, including:-
- Liaison Nurse Competency Framework online event on November 6th and
- Encouraging Learning Disabilities Nurses to submit contributions or abstracts for the Conference on December 4th.
