This exciting new position is a developmental role and would be ideal for a nurse who has experience of working with adults at risk and the Mental Capacity Act.

Voice 4 Kent Sharing Day – 14th October
Voice 4 Kent is an independent self advocacy organisation run by people with learning difficulties in Kent. They campaign supporting people to know their rights.
Voice 4 Kent lost an important member of their team this year. They decided to invite people to join them to share what they are doing, and to see what Voice 4 Kent should do in the future.

Workshop Posterv2 16 09 13The Maidstone District Partnership Group in conjunction with Kent Community Health NHS Trust are running a Health Awareness Day next Friday, dated the 27th September 2013 from 11am-3pm. We have asked health professionals from our local services to come along to engage with young people and adult service users, families, services and carers and to provide an interactive learning events and to demonstrate what health services they offer to people with a learning disability and how to access them. Teaching student Adult nurses re Learning Disability
For a couple of years, Andy Nazarjuk, Andrew Southgate and Cathy Bernal have been developing an approach to addressing health inequalities amongst people with learning disabilities by bringing students of Adult nursing and groups of service users together in Canterbury Christ Church University. This work has resulted in a proposed model for service user involvement, and was presented at the NET 2013 conference in Cambridge in September.

Margate Internships project encourages adjustments for patients
The influential Health Service Journal has recently published a research report on East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trusts partnership project with East Kent College and Kent Supported Employment into the potential benefits for patients of having people with learning disabilities in the QEQM hospital workforce.
