I CAN: Bercow 10 years on

On Tuesday 20 March 2018, after 15 months of extensive evidence gathering of the views of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), their parents and carers, speech and language therapists, education professionals, commissioners and many others, I CAN and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) published and launched the long-awaited and highly anticipated Bercow: Ten Years On report.

The Balance of Rights

The Balance of Rights explores the challenges faced by people with learning disabilities in the UK today. The issues surrounding health, housing and employment are complex but point the discussion clearly towards the social equality agenda. The Balance of Rights brings together the many voices fighting for change and sheds an unflinching light on an issue left largely in the dark for the majority of our society.

DPOs to write to minister over exclusion from social care meeting

Disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) are to write to the care minister to protest at her decision to organise a meeting to discuss the future of working-age social care without inviting a single DPO.

The failure to invite any DPOs to the “roundtable” event emerged last week after the disabled crossbench peer Baroness [Jane] Campbell had asked the government to extend the scope of its green paper on older people’s social care to include working-age disabled people with care needs.
