Protecting vulnerable people against the risk of a fire

London Fire Brigade has produced new material to help vulnerable people and their carers to identify fire risks at home. The material includes a person-centred risk assessment checklist and advice on storing specialist equipment.  More >

BILD Trustee Dr Ashok Roy awarded OBE

Congratulations to BILD trustee Dr Ashok Roy, who has received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Dr Roy, a consultant psychiatrist, specialises in services for people with learning disabilities and has more than 30 years’ experience behind him.

SeeAbility release powerful new film to encourage eye tests

SeeAbility, the charity that helps disabled people with sensory loss, have released a powerful video informing the importance of regular eye tests for people with learning disabilities.

The video introduces us to Leanne, and the story of her cataract surgery which drastically improved her vision, life and happiness after having successful surgery.

Nursing Times: Trusts told to plan for learning disability workforce shortages in new care standards

Trusts must have plans to tackle a shortage of staff specialising in supporting people with learning disabilities, the NHS regulator for England has said.

The recommendation is one of four new standards issued by NHS Improvement to help trusts measure the standard of care they provide to people with learning disabilities.
