Details for Simon Barker’s funeral
Simon was the lead singer of the band Heavy Load and one of the founders of Stay Up Late. He will be dearly missed for his totally irreverent sense of fun and total punk attitude to life, and we’ll aim to make sure we remember his approach to life in the way we run the charity. He was a truly inspirational man.
His family have said anyone who wants to pay their respects and celebrate Simon’s life is welcome to attend, and to go to the pub afterwards.

Simon is one of the most amazing men I have known. I met him after I was appointed manager of a new service which we were setting up for him and three other men and which he moved into in June1999. We got on immediately and I became extremely fond of him.
Simon completely inspired me in terms of understanding what a really competent support service needed to include, he helped me be certain that PBS was the way forward and he contributed, in no small way, to me doing what I do now.
I loved and respected Simon’s rebelliousness, his huge enthusiasm and passion for anything that really mattered to him and his firm dismissal of anything that didn’t. Simon is one of the most loyal, fun-loving, at times reckless, always determined, honest and kindest people I have known and I’m immensely proud that he called me ‘friend’.

Gr8 Support
In May 2017 Paradigm launched The Gr8 Support Movement for Direct Support Staff (support workers, teams leaders and manager) working across the UK with children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism.
The Movement is the first of its kind. It is values-based, thought provoking, encouraging and highly interactive.
It deploys contemporary methodologies to develop genuine connections and facilitate shared learning and mutual support across the membership.
